Five Quick Tips for Getting Back on Track After a Bad Grade Semester
If you’re like me, Fall 2019 was not your semester grade-wise. But have no fear, one bad semester is not the end of the world. As we near mid-term season, now is the crucial time to focus on getting back on track and getting the best grades possible. Here are some tips to help:
Invest in a planner. It’s much easier to stay on top of assignments if you schedule a time to do each one. Plus, if you feel like you’re missing something, you’ll always have your planner to refer back to. Wall calendars and/or whiteboards are also super helpful ways to keep track of all your stuff.
Find an Effective Workspace.
Although comfy, your bed probably isn’t the best place to work. And doing homework with friends seems great until you start chatting for an hour. In order to do your best, you’ll need to find the space that works for you. Whether that be your bedroom desk, your dorm’s study lounge or the library, shop around this semester for places you’re most productive. Make sure you rid yourself from all distractions too, that means hiding your phone away in a desk drawer if needed.
Consider Lightening Up Your Workload.
If you took on too much this semester, you may have to drop one or two extracurriculars. Student organizations are super understanding if you need to take a break and they’ll still be there when you’re ready to come back. Withdraw from a class if you’re afraid of failing but only after discussing it with your advisor. The last day to withdraw is March 30.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help!
Your professors want to see you succeed. If you’re having trouble understanding a class or subject, seek out their office hours. Dropping by with questions also helps them get to know you so if you’re having trouble getting an assignment in on time or need an academic reference, they’re more likely to help you out.
Take Care of Yourself!
Although it seems like fixing your grades requires non-stop and even all-night work, taking breaks and getting a good night’s sleep (that means eight whole hours!) is super important. That way you keep your mind and body sharp and don’t burn out before the end of March.
