Your Laugh

It is my favorite part
About you, it is your voice on vacation
A mighty splash when
No one was expecting a cannonball
In the deep end of a swimming pool
It is like a brightness pouring out
Of you, like the curtains have parted
Your dress shirt has too, but I didn’t see
So clearly before such radiance
It turned all the lights on
It travels like radio waves
From you, the curious channel surfer tunes in
And is surprised by how
You have materialized, they can
see your laugh as much as they can hear it
It shakes your body as it escapes
Through you, a small piece of your soul
Thrown up into the air
Exposed to the elements before it falls
Back to your mouth, closed—
It was active, now hidden,
Inside you, snuggled beside your ribs
Like a trampoline ready to be sprung
I love any opportunity to bounce it out
But really my favorite part is you.
